Assisted Living...

It’s important to know your options as you get older. Many people choose to age peacefully at home, and often their sons, daughters or other relatives help to take care of them. However, this isn’t always possible, as senior citizens’ needs often change and require skilled caregiving.

Chase County Schools...

Did you know that Chase County Elementary is one of a handful of schools nationwide with an interactive Outdoor Learning Center?

Here children can experience unique, hands-on education. In addition to traditional classrooms, the elementary school has a teaching barn with animal pens, a chicken coop with a classroom, a greenhouse, and a recycling/composting operation.

The Outdoor Learning Center's project-based model is an invaluable supplement to traditional instruction. For example, third-graders tend a flock of chickens, collect, wash and sell their eggs, then calculate the feed cost and their profit. The proceeds from the egg sales go back to the third-grade classroom.

Raising Hands

In the greenhouse, science classes learn about soil types and varieties of tomatoes, and social studies classes learn about the origin of tomatoes. Math students chart the plants’ growth and use measurements to make tomato sauce. To enhance public speaking skills, the students give presentations on their projects and lead tours for visitors to the school. Read more about Chase County Elementary's Outdoor Leaning Center at the Topeka-Capital Journal.

In addition to unique educational opportunities, Chase County (USD 284) has a low student-teacher ratio. Chase County Elementary and Chase County Junior Senior High School currently exceed Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals and are well above state averages in Reading and Math.

Chase County has excellent, safe public schools. Our Elementary school won the 2014 Kansas Green School of the Year award for its Outdoor Learning Center. Higher education opportunities are available nearby in Emporia, 20 minutes from Chase County, at Flint Hills Technical College and Emporia State University.
