About the event

Come to the 19th annual Labor Day weekend quilt display at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve on August 31st, September 1st & 2nd.  Beautiful patriotic quilts will be the featured attraction of this year’s program and will be on display each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the historic limestone barn. If you have a patriotic quilt you would like to show, call the preserve at 620-273-8494 (ext 270). Quilts are needed by August 28th and can be dropped off at the preserve visitor center between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. For each quilt, please include your name and phone number, design name of the quilt, the year made, and the owner’s name. This information is needed to create each quilt label. It’s not too late to participate.

On Saturday August 31st join an old-fashioned barn dance among the beautiful quilts. Dance is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the historic 1882 limestone barn, with Derrick Doty as caller. Live music will be performed by Bob and Melissa Atchison.

Over the weekend, vote for your favorite patriotic quilt. Votes will be tallied, and winner announced on Monday, September 2nd at 1 p.m. All activities and events are free of charge.

Enjoy the Labor Day weekend and make a day of it by creating some family memories. Take a hike to see the bison, visit the historic ranch buildings and one-room school, bring a picnic lunch, and see the fabric masterpieces using different designs, techniques, and colors. Come see what the preserve has to offer.
