Description

While maintaining the small-town charm, Cottonwood Falls offers a variety of activities and services. With old brick streets and a view of the oldest Kansas Courthouse still in use, the main business district is located one block west of KS Highway 177.

The Chase County Sheriff’s Department provides around-the-clock security and traffic control, and the Cottonwood Falls Airport, located one mile south of Cottonwood Falls, offers a 2300′ turf runway.

Besides the distinctive Chase County Courthouse, other attractions include a museum, a library, eating establishments, and several businesses, which are, in themselves, tourist attractions. Cottonwood Falls and the surrounding area have many churches representing several denominations.

Education is of the utmost importance to the community. Chase County School District, USD 284, comprises around 365 students in grades K-12. The schools offer modern educational programs and extracurricular activities.

In 2013, the cities of Strong City and Cottonwood Falls and the Chase County Rural Water District Number One united to form Public Wholesale Water District No. 26. Raw water from the existing Cottonwood Falls and Strong City wells will be treated by a new 0.5 million gallon per day treatment plant located in Strong City. The plant will provide the community with “quality potable water, better ability to meet KDHE permit requirements, reduction of requirements of local staffing of two plants and provide a long-term solution for drinking water.”

The City has recently completed Phase 1-A of The Cottonwood Falls Water System Improvement Project, including approximately 2,700 feet of six-inch C-900 PVC waterline, 8,900 feet of eight-inch C-900 PVC waterline, 1,300 feet of 12-inch C-900 PVC waterline, 21 new fire hydrants, 110 service assemblies, and a 16-inch steel casing bore under K-177 at two locations.

Cottonwood Falls has almost everything a city can offer, with a reasonable living cost and a friendly atmosphere for family living!
